Gail Johll | Children's Chorus Director

2018 Carmen

Gail Johll (Director of Carmen Children’s Chorus),a native of Carroll, Iowa, has been serving as the Music Director of the Catholic Youth Choir of Central Iowa since 2008 and Director of Music and Organist at the Basilica of St. John since 2014. Admittedly however, her first love in the music realm is choral conducting. She has been kept busy with five choral ensembles over the past few years, including an adult choir at the Basilica, as well as four youth choirs, and bell choir. She dabbles in composition and arranges extensively incorporating a variety of instruments for special liturgies and concerts throughout the year.

Mrs. Johll has been active in directing choirs of all ages for over 30 years, teaching voice and piano, and enjoys accompanying. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education, Magna Cum Laude, with an emphasis in Voice and Piano from Viterbo University in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. She received a Master of Arts Degree from the

University of California-Riverside in Vocal Performance. She has performed opera roles of Clorinda in Rossini’s La Cenerentola, Hansel in Hansel and Gretelby Humperdinck, and a variety of other opera ensembles.

In addition to being involved in music, Mrs. Johll is happily married to Dr. Joseph Johll and blessed with seven children, (all of whom she has enjoyed the privilege of educating at home!).
